What is it? - Psychotic disorder
- Disabling brain disease
- Typical onset in late teens and mid-30’s
Four central issues: - Delusions: false personal beliefs, grandiosity, paranoia
- Hallucinations: hearing voices, seeing things that are not there
- Disorganized speech: inability to follow a line of logic, using nonsense sentences
- Disorganized behavior: strange or socially inappropriate behavior
What does it look like? - Problems attending classes or appointments
- Loss of desire to study or attend class
- Difficulties concentrating and memorizing
- Appears disinterested and lethargic
- Socially isolates because others perceive them as strange or scary
- Frequent absences due to hospitalizations
